FOOTBALL!!!

The Luckey house is ready. Brett has a couple scrimmages on Saturday and the high school season around here will kick off next week. He has been reffing for 5 years so this year will be his first year of Varsity football. He did a few games last year to get a feel for it - but this year is his year. He is excited about that. With his work schedule he is limited to how many games he can ref but because he is off Friday and Saturday and those are Varsity nights - he will be busy on those nights. So for now - the sign in our house sticks...

I've even been roped into the football madness around work and have joined my first fantasy league. It's a work league and should be a lot of fun. Of course, my husband is helping me out though. I don't know that much about it.

We are looking forward to a quite Labor Day weekend. Might partake in a cookout somewhere and hopefully enjoy the pools for one last swim but that is about it. It's nice to have a "quite" weekend planned. Have a happy and safe weekend!

Ortho Appointment made

I finally called today the Pediatric dentist and ortho in Syracuse to see about getting Cody an appointment. Wouldn't you know they could get us right in on Sept. 8th - to bad that is the first day of school for the boys so that didn't work. So we ended up with October 1st. More time for my anxiety to kick into over drive.

I have heard a lot of great things about this doctor. After visiting their website, I found out that there are 3 pediatric dentist and an orthodontist right in the building. So the care would all be in one spot. Dr. Tatum recommends this doctor as this doctor volunteers his time to be on the craniofacial team. I value Dr. Tatum's opinion a lot so for him to recommend this guy means a lot to me. This all seemed like the perfect place UNTIL I read the new patient welcome letter where it stated they don't actually bill the insurance companies. Patients pay for services and then submit claims to their insurance for payment. That totally sucks. How on earth do people come up with that type of money to pay for something up front and wait to get the money paid back to them. So, I am not sure what we are going to do. I am going to keep the first visit because I want to know what Dr. Dillingham suggest to us. I am still waiting to hear back from our local dentist and will probably meet with them too. That way I can compare the two. Then we need to make the best decision for Cody and will have to figure the rest out later. I guess you always find a way, right? Or so I am hoping. I was just really hoping to not have to be worrying about this.

When talking briefly with Brett about a possible plan he did give me a very nice compliment and that was that he knows I value his opinion but when it comes to our kids he knows that I will make the best decision for them and he trusts me 100%. So that made me feel good.

Then the annoyed side of me took over and just really want to ask this doctor why on earth DON'T they direct bill the insurance. I mean wouldn't that make more sense and a lot less stressful on the patients and their families. UGH. DOCTORS - need I say more?

Fun day with Gimmie

The boys had a little extra special day today with their Gimmie. Mom decided she didn't want to just "stay home" so she decided to go pick Karly up and take the four of them to McDonald's for lunch and playing and then onto a park for more fun. They had a lot of fun and truly enjoyed our nice summer day. Hard to believe that school starts next week, football season starts this weekend and Fall is right around the corner.

Lucky Smiles Picnic

Today we hosted our 2nd family fun day for our local craniofacial families. We had a fantastic day and everyone had a great time. This event was much smaller than last year. Last year we had it at a zoo in Syracuse and we had almost 150 people. This year we had 50 but still had fun. I think the location is what did it in for most. Being in Binghamton and almost all of our invites went to Syracuse families - the drive was just to much for them. So you live and learn. This picnic was a challenge for me this year as it was my first one of it's kind and I had so much other personal stuff going on. Between vacations, other parties and my mind pre-occupied with things going on with Cody, not to mention lining up donations and getting people to return a phone call - but the day went off without a hitch (or close to it). The whole event was sponsored by cleftAdvocate and thanks to Debbie we couldn't have done it without them. So a huge thank you to them. We also had two local guys donate their time and services to provide our entertainment to the kids. We had BoBo the Clown. A HUGE hit with the kids. He had them up and helping, throwing their magic dust around and everyone was in stitches. We also had a balloon artist that came and made all sorts of balloon figures for the kids. They loved this. If one popped, out came another. My neighbor came and did our face painting. The kids all looked so cute - of course though my 3 weren't impressed. A co-worker of mine came and took all of our pictures. He does it on the side and it was just so nice to have an event photographer. I saw lots of families mingling and it was so nice to see old faces and meet new ones. Its also amazing that when you get talking with other parents how much our kids do have in common. I personally came away from today with some great connections.

A big thank you to my family for helping and supporting me. I couldn't do all that I do without them. Today went seamless. My mom came to the house to watch the kids while Brett and I went to the park to set up. So much easier than having them under foot. After getting to the park, I realized that the pavilion wasn't where I thought, so I frantically called my brother-in-law and he came to my rescue with a sign to put at the end of the drive to let families know where to come. Also thanks to my sister who just steps up with setting things up, she knows what I want and where to do it without asking and mingles right in with the families. And to my husband, who sometimes I never get to thank and sometimes we seem to be at each others throats........he was my run man. He ran to get balloons filled, pick up pizza, call me from the party store as I send him all over the isles to get things that I just have to have, never complained - well until the balloons escaped from the Explorer and floated high into the sky! Yah, he was kind of ticked. He was tying smiley face ones around the park so people knew where to go, had gotten 2 up and left the windows open and out they went. So.......he's not in charge of balloons again! :) .

And of course a big thank you to my Cody, who would of ever thought that 4 years ago when you came into my world we would be where we are today. You are my inspiration to help other families on our journey. It's not an easy one and I don't doubt we will have lots of bumps but your smile lights up my life, to hear you giggle sends a shiver down my spine and to see you interact at an event in your honor (because without you I wouldn't be doing what I am doing) puts a huge smile on my face. I love you!

Friday Night FUN

Tonight was hair cut night in the Luckey household. The boys did fantastic for their dad. Each one standing on the chair and listening while Daddy cut. No whining, no crying, no fighting - just a good hair cut. Maybe it helped that I said no milk shakes if they carried on. Whatever it takes! They needed them so bad.

Today I finally heard back from the pediatric dentist regarding Cody's x-rays. Well sort of....she called the house and talked with my Mom. I really think they were hoping to get a voice mail. Basically the assistant said that she was looking into it and is waiting on the ortho to call back so they can discuss, but wanted to let me know. The dentist is on vacation until the 8th and then she would be in touch. Ok, I had these x-rays sent about a week prior to us leaving for Las Vegas. So that was middle of July. It is now the end of August (22nd) and I JUST got a call today. Not to mention I have called 4 times! They must of had ESP today because they were going to be getting another call from me. When my Mom told them that it appeared to be taking a long time, they replied "well we are dealing with specialist". Not a good excuse for me as I have dealt with many "specialist" and usually have a great turn around time. So - I'll wait for her to call me back but Monday I will also be calling the pediatric dentist/orthodontist on the team in Syracuse and see about going to see him. I think I would feel better anyway. This doctor - Dr. Dillingham works with Dr. Tatum and I only trust so many people inside of Cody's mouth.

Tomorrow is the Lucky Smiles family picnic. This has been a chore to organize this year and at one point it came close to canceling. We did have to cancel our morning training due to lack of interest but we have about 70 people coming for the afternoon picnic. We will have a clown, face painter, balloon artist, playground and some good ole pizza for everyone. It should be a great day! I look forward to seeing a few old families and meeting some new people. I'll be sure to share tomorrow how it goes!

A couple things

I got word back from the pediatrician today.....well let me back up to Friday. I called the ped before we left to go home because I hadn't heard from him if he had talked with the Endo yet. I was some what glad he hadn't because I had something else I wanted to share. Cody has seemed to go from being tired all the time to not being tired at all. Going to bed late, being first one up (before me) and just acting sort of hyper. My concern was that maybe he was going from one extreme to the other. So Dr. Miller called me at 6:30 as we were almost home. I shared the info and he said he would get a hold of Dr. Woo (Endo) on Monday or Tuesday and get back to me. He felt what I told him was valuable because the Thyroid levels are controlled by the Pituitary gland and that gland doesn't seem to be stabilizing itself. So tonight he calls me and he did talk with Dr. Woo. Dr. Woo was concerned that his TSH level started at a 9.25 but was some what relieved that it went down on the second blood draw to a 6.45. So it feels it's going in the right direction. He would like to re-test the blood work in a couple more weeks and then talk. He just doesn't want to rush to put him on a drug if he can help it. Which I agree. So we will retest and go from there.

Now to something that just irks me to no end. McDonald's Drive Thru! All you out there are probably going "uh huh". Tonight I had to go pick up some supplies for the picnic on Saturday and the boys asked to get McDonald's. Fine by me as we have no food in the house and really need to go shopping. So we go. They all get Happy Meals. Now these things aren't cheap - times by 3. So we get home (whole way home the boys are talking about there toys) and get inside...open them up....NO FREAKING TOY! Oh I was so mad. Not to mention so are they. Isn't that one of the main reasons for a happy meal - you get a toy. To a kid they could forget the food - but don't forget the toy. So instead in one box we got 2 french fries. All the food was right, this time. I didn't go back as this McDonald's wasn't anywhere near home. I looked in my food bag but figured I didn't need to look in the boxes. You bet your bottom dollar - next time I will.

Weekend Update

Friday we headed "home" for the weekend for Kristie's baby shower. We had a great weekend and a great shower. Saturday was the shower. It was so great to see Kevin and Kristie as we haven't seen them since Christmas. (to long) Kristie looks absolutely fabulous. She is 31 weeks and baby Jack is doing great. We had a really nice shower. You always wonder as you are planning these if all of your ideas are going to come together and look good. They did. Her mom did the food and that was very good as well. She got lots of great presents and I think the only duplicate was the shopping cart cover. My Dad made them a cradle. In tradition with the cradles that he made for Tanya and I. It turned out very beautiful. We also got to see a lot of friends and family that we haven't seen in a while. So in a way it was a social event for us. It's always so nice to catch up with people. Sat. night we went to Kristie's parents for a cook out and swimming. Although only the kids got in the pool - it was just a tad cool. Dylan though didn't want to come with us. When my mom and I got back to the house to change after the shower, my little farmer was busy shoveling cow poop. He was in his glory!!!

Making someone else laugh

So yesterday my sister sends me a link for our local radio station as they are hosting a contest. Normally I don't even try because my last name normally doesn't bring me what I need. LUCK! But this contest was a 'Back to School - Back to Sanity' contest. Where you have to write about a horrifying experience with you kids this summer. Tanya suggested I tell the time of when I took the boys Father's Day shopping - they all had to pee and poop and then somebody stole our cart. If you want to read the whole story - I posted that in June!!! Anyway, I wrote the letter and sent it in. This morning on the radio they read my story. I didn't hear it but one of the guys I work with asked me the minute I got to work if I had recently sent my story to them. He remembered my complaining I did at work the day after it happened. So it doesn't mean that I win. The host (Louie G. & Tanya) will pick their top 3 and then post them on the Internet for the listeners to vote on. If you win - you win 2 tickets to the spa!!!!

Oh my heck - that would be fantastic. I could sooooooooooooooo use a day at the spa. Especially because I do this mommy thing every night all by myself. I don't know how those single mom's do it. At times I feel like one because Brett and I aren't home at the same time. And well let's just face it - as much as I love my husband, he doesn't do anything unless he is told to do it.

So wish me luck! If I get picked in the top 3 I will be sure to let you know so I can get some votes.

We are heading back home tomorrow for Kristie's baby shower. Can't believe she is 30 weeks pregnant all ready. This is flying by. She is doing fantastic and little Jack is getting bigger every day. I can't wait to see her belly in person. She went for her visit yesterday and is measuring 2 weeks ahead of schedule. So only time will tell. It's also going to be a nice weekend and the boys are hoping for some pool time at Grandma's.

Knoebles

What a weekend! Our weather was nice and we were able to embark on our road trip to Knoebles. The kids were so well behaved at times it was actually surprising. It was only a 2 1/2 hour ride so it wasn't bad. We left around 9, stop once for a pee brake and got to the park about 11:30. It was packed. We had packed sandwich's and after finding an open table we ate quick and went about our way. The park is an older park so we were a little unsure at where the entrance was....guess there wasn't one. You just found the closest ticket counter and bought your tickets. Which were like buying money but in ticket form. All the rides cost so much per person. I ended up riding a lot as Tanya can't do them and some of the rides required an adult - especially for Tyler and Connor to go. The other 3 could do most everything themselves.

They rode and rode and rode some more. They rode/We rode the ski lift chairs (not sure of the real name but you know what I mean), merry-go-round, bumper boats, all sorts of kiddie rides, some reminded me of old carnival rides. Our two big rides were the log ride which I was so lucky to take them. Tyler was to short so he stayed and watched but Karly, Cody, Dylan and I got to ride - and I'll post the picture to share. It was hysterical because as you go down the first little hill Cody says "mom, I don't think I like this"....well to late now. So we get to the top and down we come! Our faces say it all. We didn't get soaked so that was good. There was another water ride they wanted to go on so bad but everybody came off dripping wet and I wasn't riding in the car wet. So next time. The other ride was the Haunted House. OMG!!!! Tanya, Karly and Dylan in one cart........Cody, Tyler and I in another. We enter this house and it's pitch dark and I think the kids saw about the first 2 seconds and the rest of the ride they were scared out of their minds. Cody had his head buried in my arm - if he could of crawled in he would have. Tyler had his hands in front of his eyes.....he does say he remembers somebodies head falling off....(guess he didn't have his eyes covered 100%). I of course sat there in awe repeating to the kids "it's OK, mommy is right here".....mean while I am wondering when the heck we are getting out of this house and just at that time - don't we almost hit a wall (on purpose) and these truck lights come blaring on with a super loud air horn! I do have to say nobody left crying - unlike the 8 year old ish that got off behind us.

As we left we went back to our picnic area to find that somebody helped themselves to our table cloth. Left the cooler and food bag but took the table cloth. Whatever! So rude and the kids had a fit. Said they were calling their Uncle Kevin to tell him! We just laughed and told them he couldn't do much. Then we had to explain that stealing isn't nice. So that was a little disappointing because as we left our stuff a park security guard had helped us find our table and he said how "safe" it was to leave things. So.......all of the kids slept in the car ride home. They were so tired - but had done fantastic all day. Mom, Tanya and I laughed so much this weekend. We had a great time and we really needed that. Laughing is such a good way free your mind. We got home around 9:30 and surprisingly everybody was back in bed by 11.

Not sure if we will do Knoebles again anytime soon - but it was a great day and we didn't leave feeling like we just spent the bank account.

The guys arrived home tonight from the races and they too had a good time. They consumed lots of beer and car fumes. Brett was greeted with 3 very little anxious boys. He got them all a Dale JR matchbox and they thought that was pretty cool. Then they wanted to "wrestle" with their dad. He did it but I could tell he's hurtin!

Road Trip

Tomorrow Tanya, my mom and I will set out on a road trip with 5 kids. We are taking them to Knoebles for the day. They have lots of rides for the kids so it should be a great day. Tanya and I have vowed not to sit back and stay home while our husbands are off to the races. Last year we went to Niagara Falls.....we would of loved to stay somewhere but we have our dogs to contend with....so we are going down and back in a day. I don't doubt it will be challenging at times, I look forward to these special trips and hope our kids will remember them for years to come.

I became Mrs. Luckey. So hard to believe it's been 8 years. That seems like so long ago. We've had our fair share of up and downs but who hasn't. Marriage and parenting are two full time jobs that everybody tried to tell you about but when you were younger you didn't want to hear any of it. They were just two "jobs" to conquer in life. While I am glad we did conquer them they haven't always been easy. However, we learn from our past and look forward to the future for many years to come.

Because of our schedules, we had an anniversary lunch today. It was nice to sit down at a nice restaurant and have a meal and not be interrupted every other second. We decided to do no gifts as we were just in Vegas and have things we are doing this weekend.

So to my husband who is my backbone - I love you!

You know what I hate....

I hate when you call a doctor's office 3 weeks ago and they still haven't called me back. I don't have many patients especially for this. I had called our dentist the Thursday before we left for Vegas. Made sure they received the copy of the x-rays from Syracuse and asked to be called back. That didn't happen, then we were gone the week in Vegas. I called last Tuesday and left another message and still they haven't called me back. I really hate that. So I must call again tomorrow. It's not that the decision will be made right away but I have a feeling we are going to have to take him to another doctor for another opinion and getting into that office might be harder.

I also am not fans for bosses who tell you one thing and do another. Enough said! I think that statement can hit home for just about anybody.

Our Weekend

We had a pretty mild weekend this weekend. The Smith's stopped down Friday night for a little bit and us girls went baby shower shopping. Saturday Cody woke up and didn't feel well. Then he got sick. So he was pretty out of it for a while. Never was himself all day. Sat. night we went to the Smith's for dinner and a bom fire. That is always nice and relaxing to sit out by a fire. Today we have spent all day in the kitchen.....PAINTING! I wanted a change. Tired of the white and blue that it was so we are going to tan and navy. We have done a lot of painting and my kitchen is a disaster. But this was our only day to do it as our next few weeks we are busy.

Brett is still thanking me for making him paint!!!! He loves me!
